The new school year is almost here! Tomorrow, August 27, is the first day back to school for the Everett School District.

We would like to remind our community to be aware of posted School Zone areas and speeds, especially with all the children heading out to their bus stops.

We’ve heard your concerns, and we are on it!

Mill Creek Officers have stepped up education and enforcement efforts with unlawful e-motorcycle usage on our streets and sidewalks. Officers are conducting traffic stops, warning operators and their parents, and eventually impounding e-motorcycles that are not street legal for repeat offenders.

Unfortunately, we are encountering several repeat offenders who are ignoring our warnings, which has resulted in traffic infractions being issued, as well as arrests being made for Reckless Driving (RCW 46.61.500) and, in some cases, Eluding (RCW 46.61.500).

Our priority is safety first!

E-Bike and E-Motorcycle Usage Facts:

The use of all motorcycles (gas and electric) must meet several legal requirements in the City of Mill Creek. These requirements include:

• "No person may drive either a two-wheeled or a three-wheeled motorcycle, or a motor-driven cycle unless such person has a valid driver's license specially endorsed by the director to enable the holder to drive such vehicles." (RCW 46.20.500).
• Street legal safety features are required, such as headlights, brake lights, mirrors, tires, fenders, and a horn.
• Safety gear is required, including a Department of Transportation-approved helmet.
• You must have a knowledge of traffic laws and ride responsibly.

Snohomish Country trucks will be back out striping roads and select intersections in Mill Creek this Saturday, August 23.

The Mill Creek City Council met on August 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM in a special meeting.

Here is a brief overview of the meeting:

• Council voted 6-0 to approve a settlement agreement with Joseph P. Socoloski, III.

On Saturday, August 16th, at approximately 5:00 pm, Mill Creek Police were dispatched to the Swift Orange Line bus stop at the 800 block of 164th St. SE, in response to a report of an assault with a weapon.  When officers arrived, they learned that several juveniles already on the bus got into a physical altercation with a male and a female who later entered the coach at this location.  

The male and female exited the bus, and shots were exchanged between the male outside the bus and the juveniles inside.  All suspects fled on foot before police arrived. There were no injuries due to the gunfire.  

A K-9 unit was able to locate and detain two juveniles. One juvenile was released to the hospital for treatment of a canine bite, while the other was released to a parent.  Detectives have identified one additional juvenile and are continuing to investigate the other subjects involved.

The Mill Creek City Council met on August 12, 2025, in a hybrid meeting. 

Here is a brief overview of some of the items from the meeting:

• Council recessed into Executive Session to discuss litigation and potential litigation.
• Mayor Brian Holtzclaw proclaimed August 21, 2025, as Fentanyl Prevention and Awareness Day in the City of Mill Creek.
• Council voted 6-0 to approve the Art and Beautification Board Bylaws.
• Council voted 6-0 to authorize amendment 2 to the Sweetwater Ranch Stormwater Pipe Replacement design contract.
• Mayor Brian Holtzclaw reported on the August 6, 2025, South County Fire Board of Commissioners meeting he attended and discussed next steps for the City of Mill Creek to address South County Fire’s redeployment plan.

After our post on Friday, the City received feedback from members of the Mill Creek City Council (Council) that it needed to clarify the Council's responses. Please read on.

As stated previously, on July 29, the City held a Special City Council Meeting where representatives from South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue (SCF) were invited to discuss their recent redeployment, the reorganization of the Regional Fire Authority, and how the redeployment affected Mill Creek.

Chief Bob Eastman and his team provided an overview of their new organizational roadmap, which resulted in the removal of two paramedics from Station 76 (FS 76) in Mill Creek. During the meeting, Councilmembers expressed concern because SCF had not provided any notice regarding the proposed redeployment and the impact it might have on Mill Creek, or any data or justification supporting the decision. Mayor Brian Holtzclaw expressed that in the absence of such information, Council could not assess the District's redeployment decision.           

Council is very concerned because the redeployment is contrary to SCF's original promise to the residents of Mill Creek during the annexation process in 2021 and 2022, that a five-person firefighter/paramedic crew would continue operating from FS 76. The City believes that maintaining the staffing levels at FS 76 was a critical factor in the voters' approval of the annexation. Councilmembers expressed their disappointment with the lack of transparency and communication surrounding the changes affecting the station and Mill Creek residents.

In the coming weeks, Council will be asking the District for more information and data supporting the District's decision to redeploy the paramedics from FS 76.

Additionally, Mayor Holtzclaw, along with City Manager Yamamoto, will be attending the Board of Commissioners' meeting on August 6, 2025, to express their Concerns.
