Poet's Perspective

The City of Mill Creek's Art & Beautification Board is proud to have worked with Jackson High School English teacher Jenna Pratt and Spark! Creativity on the inaugural Poet's Perspective competition, in which JHS students participated.

This new poetry contest offers a way for JHS students to express their connections with the Mill Creek community: what their connection means to them, what makes Mill Creek special, and how it shapes their experiences. Through vivid imagery, heartfelt storytelling, or powerful observations, students were encouraged to reflect and write from the heart.

About the Poet's Perspective Project

Poet’s Perspective is a youth-centered poetry competition inviting students from Jackson High School’s Creative Writing class to reflect on their personal connections to the Mill Creek. Students were asked the following:

  • What does Mill Creek mean to me?
  • How does this place shape who I am?
  • What makes my community special?
