Preserving Mill Creek's Streets with Slurry Seal

Mill Creek extends the life of neighborhood streets by applying a slurry seal, which is a thin layer of water, aggregate, and emulsified asphalt. This coating protects the pavement from weather and restores it with fresh aggregate, significantly prolonging road quality.

Will it make the road smoother?

While newly sealed streets may feel gritty at first, this is normal and temporary. Street sweeping occurs multiple times in the months following application to remove loose gravel. Over time, vehicle traffic smooths the surface by embedding the aggregate into the pavement.

In about a year, streets regain their familiar smoothness and gain added durability that lasts for years to come

Is it expensive?

Slurry seal is a cost-effective alternative to repaving or rebuilding streets, which is why it's widely used by cities across the country and utilized throughout the Puget Sound region.

Where is slurry seal being applied?

Slurry Seal is used by municipalities across the country, including many of our neighboring communities like Bothell, Kenmore, Shoreline, Mukilteo, Redmond, Burien, Seattle, and Kirkland, who have been successfully implementing Slurry Seal treatments for over 10 years.

For an in-depth look at the slurry seal process and its effectiveness in the Puget Sound, visit Kirkland's Slurry Seal page.
